Bradenton, Florida - Christopher Maragakes, 97, passed away suddenly at HCA Florida Blake Hospital on October 2, 2023. Chris lived in Freedom Village of Bradenton. Chris's parents immigrated from Greece in 1922 with their first born. They came through Ellis Island and lived in the Bronx. Chris was born in Manhattan on February 8, 1926; he attended Stuyvesant High School and received a scholarship to Lehigh University, graduating with a degree in Mechanical & Industrial Engineering. Following his education, he was a Lieutenant in the Army in World War II and served in the European Theater in Germany and later served in the Korean War. Chris was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; his brother, John; and his sisters; Evangeline and Florence. He is survived by his longtime partner, Marilyn; his brother-in-law, John; many nieces and nephews. They will greatly miss his kind and genuine nature.
The family wishes to thank the ICU nurses at HCA Florida Blake Hospital and Tidewell Hospice for the wonderful care he received. Per Chris's wishes, his family will hold a private Celebration of Life ceremony on the waters off Anna Maria Island at a later date.
