City Council Votes 4--1 to Approve Construction Contracts.

BRADENTON -- The Bradenton City Council Voted 4-1 to approve the awarded contracts for the construction of single-family residences. The contracts went to Colony Homes and Development Inc. and Carlsen Contracting Co. Inc.

Councilman Gene Gallo, the dissenting vote, refused to get past the fact he had not received copies of the contracts until he sat down at the committee at 8:30 a.m. Councilwoman Maryann Barnaby shared his annoyance and said that she did not want to be handed something at the meeting.

Carl Callahan explained the protocol of submitting a bid, which took pressure off of Tim Polk, Director of Planning and Community Development, and his staff. When Polk was asked if the vote could be carried over to the next agenda, he said it might be too difficult for the bid recipients to reformulate their schedule due to commitments. Polk added that the project was fully funded by the Neighborhood Stabilization Program at no expense to the taxpayers.

Councilman Bemis Smith made the motion to accept, Roff seconded it and the vote set the course for a go.
