Siesta Key, FL – Sean Murphy, owner of the award-winning Beach Bistro and Eat Here restaurants in Sarasota and on Anna Maria Island, is opening a third Eat Here location on Siesta Key. The newest modern American diner is scheduled to open in January, 2013.
Eat Here was named “Best New Restaurant” by SRQ Magazine, Sarasota Herald Tribune and Sarasota Magazine. It celebrates chef-crafted cookery with presentations of local farm products; fresh, locally-caught seafood; inspired pizza and taco cuisine; refreshing, fruit-infused cocktails and craft beer and wine. The newest chef-driven restaurant, Gulf Coast cookery on Siesta Key will offer the same winning formula as its predecessors.
Menu preparations are offered in a variety of small plates that are perfect for sharing and larger, individual entrées. Selections included on the menu are: the Killer Grilled Cheese with muenster and gruyere cheeses and caramelized onions; free-range, buttermilk Fried Chicken and Waffles; Lobster Tacos; Lobstercargot; Smoked Salmon & Crème Fraîche Pizza; Island Ribs; Gulf Coast Oyster Fry and New Orleans-style Seafood Stew.
The bar emphasizes classic cocktails and fruit-based drinks made with fresh herbs, Asian spices and top-shelf liquor, as well as craft beer, domestic wine and charcuterie. Weekends feature special events and live entertainment.

The second annual National Law Enforcement Officers Relief Fund Golf Tournament more than doubled last years’ participation. One hundred and twenty-eight golfers played in the 2011 event while two hundred and twenty three show up this year.
Playing at Laurel Oak, golfers raised more than $50,000 dollars to the charity along with another $13,000 from donated items for raffle items and a silent auction.
It is particularly important to note that because of the efforts of volunteers and union staff, the fund had no administrative costs allowing all of the money raised at this event to go to law enforcement officers and their families who suffer from a tragedy.
With more than thirty years of experience servicing law enforcement officers, the Sarasota based International Union of Police Associations, AFL-CIO formed the LEORF as a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization to assistance to law enforcement personnel as well as their immediate family members who have suffered loss as a result of disaster, violence, injury or any other calamity.
Commenting on the sponsors who have already stepped forward, Tournament Committee Chairman Dan Farrell said, “Law Enforcement Officers face disaster every day, protecting and serving their communities - often while risking their own lives. Now you can watch as public safety personnel showcase their prowess during the First Responders Challenge on Saturday, November 10, 2012 as they compete for bragging rights as the most skilled among their peers.
This family-friendly event will be held at Manatee Technical Institute’s Lakewood Ranch Campus at 5530 Lakewood Ranch Boulevard from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Admission is free and there will be food concessions along with demonstrations by various public safety agencies such as Bay Flight, canine and arson dog units, emergency extraction teams.
The First Responders Challenge is being organized by the MTI Alumni Association and presented by the Bradenton Herald and Fawley-Bryant Architects. Proceeds will benefit the MTI Foundation which provides scholarships to MTI students for tuition, books and uniforms.
Registration for First Responder participants is now open and sponsorships for the event are still available.

Part of the excitement of the new Riverwalk is seeing the permanent display of art titled “Postcards from the Friendly City” created by artists Jean Blackburn and Don Brandes. They were commissioned by the Downtown Development Authority to portray the rich history of the Manatee River and Manatee Lands in nine postcards which are positioned along the Riverwalk.

The Manatee Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Manatee Community Federal Credit Union will present the Big Bank Theory at all Manatee County High Schools. The Big Bank Theory teaches teens the importance of budgeting, saving money, and prioritizing spending decisions. During the program, students are engaged in a hands-on, real-life financial simulation that introduces them to the realities of being financially sensible while gaining valuable experience paying bills and making daily decision that are essential to being a responsible adult.

The Desoto Boys & Girls Club will be hosting a Madden13 Tournament on Saturday, November 3rd at the Desoto Boys & Girls Club, 5231 34th Street, West in Bradenton. Sign in and registration will begin at 10am with tournament to start at 11am.
The ever-popular game Madden NFL 13 was released at the end of August and the Desoto Boys & Girls Club will play host to video gamers all over the county. Cost to play is $25 if pre-registered or $30 at the door. Must be 18 or older to enter. Placement in tournament will be determined by hat draw. Lunch will be provided to all registrants.
“We are excited to be bringing the Madden13 Tournament to Bradenton this year,” said Club Director, Wendell Faison. “Not only will this be a fun and exciting event for those ‘gamers’ out there, but it’s a great opportunity for people to see what’s happening in the Club and the new teen center.”
