As a result of the 2010 census, it is once again time to redraw the district boundaries for the five Manatee School Board seats and the five county commission seats (6 & 7 are at-large, countywide districts). We're asking our readers to take the following poll to voice which method of drawing those districts they support.
The Shared District Method: The Commission and the School Board each appoint one person not connected with either body to constitute with the Supervisor of Elections (or appointee) an Independent Boundary Council to apply Fair Districting standards in drawing districts that are the same for commissioners and school board members.
The Status Quo: Manatee County Commission and School Board members select the boundaries for their own separate districts as they see fit.
