SARASOTA – All Faiths Food Bank is pleased to announce the addition of two staff members to its team. Susan Michelson Brown will serve as Chief Administrative Officer, and Scott Malcom has been named Director of Operations.
All Faiths Food Bank has served residents in DeSoto and Sarasota Counties for almost 25 years and with the increasing need for healthy and nutritious food, and the expansion of its education programs, two new positions were added to support its efforts.
“We are thrilled to have Susan and Scott join the All Faiths family,” said Executive Director Sandra Frank, “There is greater demand than ever for the services and programs we provide and they bring the skills and experience crucial to our mission and future of feeding the hungry in our community.”
Susan Michelson Brown – Chief Administrative Officer
Susan Michelson Brown was previously Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of an international health organization headquartered in Washington, DC. As Chief Administrative Officer at AFFB, she will be responsible for human resources, administration, technology and finance. Her experience also includes program development, education and outreach, marketing, and development. Susan has an MBA in Finance from New York University and a Master’s in Social Work in Administration from Boston University.
The majority of Susan’s professional career has been committed to mission delivery in the nonprofit world. From her early career in children’s services and foster care, she has been engaged as a staff member, manager, and then a member of senior leadership. Her experience has also provided her with the opportunity to be a part of several national systems, participating at both the local affiliate level as well as from the headquarters’ office. Susan and her husband Phil relocated to the Sarasota area in 2012.
Scott Malcom – Director of Operations
Scott joined the leadership team at All Faiths Food Bank after a distinguished military career, retiring as a Colonel in July 2012. He has assumed the responsibility of Director of Operations, a role that is absolutely critical to our mission. He has a Master’s Degree in Rhetoric and Technical Communication from Michigan Technological University and another in Strategic Resource Management from National Defense University. He and his wife, Leslee, live in Bradenton with their four children.
While in the U.S. Army, Scott piloted Kiowa Warrior Helicopters in Europe and the Middle East, coordinated logistics and emergency response operations near Korea’s Demilitarized Zone and innovated groundbreaking Public Affairs work for Army Green Berets and Navy SEALs during the invasion of Iraq in 2003. His senior leadership assignments included serving as the Commanding Officer of the American Forces Radio and Television Network in Europe and as the Director of Public Affairs for United States Southern Command. In this final assignment, Scott routinely interacted with the Secretary of Defense, other senior government officials and domestic and international media on contentious issues such as the terrorist detention facility at Guantanamo Bay and the regional war on drugs.
