Community Spotlight: Blake Medical Center Hosts 2nd Annual Health & Safety Hullabaloo

BRADENTON – Blake Medical Center’s 2nd Annual Health & Safety Hullabaloo is being held Saturday, February 2, 2013 from 9am to 1pm. The event is part of Blake Medical Center’s commitment to promoting accident & disease prevention as well as encouraging healthier lifestyles in our community.

Participants will have the opportunity to visit more than 30 interactive booths featuring information about nutrition, fitness, health and safety. Physicians specializing in pediatrics, women’s health, cardiology, trauma, joint & spine, orthopedics, stroke, therapies and much more will be available to answer your questions.

Join us for free screenings at the event that include blood pressure, pulmonary function, grip strength and bone density. You and your family can begin cultivating healthy habits by learning how to recognize or monitor important health indicators for blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose and weight as well as become more educated on accident prevention. There will also be physicians, nurses and nutritionists on-site to answer your questions. 

Local restaurants participating in the Healthy Choices program will dish on how to create mouthwatering meals that won’t damage your waistline as well as offer samples from their menus. 

Community partners attending include Manatee County EMS, Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, Bradenton Police Department, Bayflite, Florida Highway Patrol, Bradenton & West Manatee Fire Departments and many more! Some of the interactive activities include:

·         FHP’s Roll Over Simulator to demonstrate the importance of wearing safety belts

·         Photo Ops with Bayflite Helicopter and ambulance crews

·         Children’s firefighter obstacle course and bike safety rodeo

·         Fatal Vision Goggles to demonstrate various levels of impairments and the dangers of impaired driving

·         Correct Backpack Wear/Weight demonstrations
