Community Spotlight: Meals on Wheels PLUS Wins Nonprofit of the Year Award

BRADENTON – The Tampa Bay Business Journal recently announced that Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee, led by CEO, Maribeth Phillips, has been chosen as the winner in two categories – “Health and Human Services” and “Overall” for the 2013 Nonprofit of the Year Awards. In its eighth year, these awards recognize organizations for the good they do in the community and for their fiscal responsibility.

Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee was among seven other finalists in the category of Health and Human Services and among thirty overall. This is the second year Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee has been a finalist for this prestigious award.

“On behalf of our staff, board of directors, volunteers, sponsors and donors, I am so proud to receive this award and recognition for Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee,” said Maribeth Phillips, CEO.

All finalists were recognized on Thursday, June 6, 2013, at the Awards Luncheon in Tampa, and the winners in each category were announced.

Since 1972, Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee has been providing nutritional assistance and caring, supportive services to individuals in their homes or in centers throughout Manatee County, helping them to continue to live independently. More than 60 percent of the Meals on Wheels PLUS funds must be raised through local donations, grants, and fundraising projects.
