BRADENTON – TreeUmph! Adventure Course, Southwest Florida’s first treetop obstacle course, will host the Power of Giving Student Service Program of the Ryan Nece Foundation on Saturday, May 11, 2013. The event will serve as a teambuilding exercise for 13 students plus former Buccaneers’ linebacker Ryan Nece before they travel to Santiago, Dominican Republic, in June to engage in a cultural exchange and community assistance.

Launched in 2007, the Power of Giving Awards Program was designed by the Ryan Nece Foundation to reward Bay-area high school students who participate in community service efforts and achieve academic success. After just four years, the foundation awarded a total of $22,000 in college scholarships to local students.

The Power of Giving Awards Program was recently redesigned to create the Power of Giving Student Service Program, which gives high school juniors the opportunity to travel internationally to gain a new perspective on giving while also the assisting the basic needs of families in developing countries. The goal of the program is to ignite a new spark of philanthropic efforts in students, so they return to Tampa Bay with a renewed sense of importance behind the service work they continue for local and international purposes. The students selected for the Power of Giving program will travel to the Dominican Republic in June 2013, where they will connect with Dominican students and help with home improvements for local families.

“The Power of Giving Student Service Program is such a wonderful way to introduce local students to the benefits of giving back to local and international communities,” said Kathy Corr, co-owner of TreeUmph! Adventure Course. “We are proud to be their choice for teambuilding exercises and to help make a difference.”

The course will be open to the public during the event. Reservations are required.
