Community Spotlight: Sarasota Physician Honored at National Medical Director's Meeting

SARASOTA – Alexander DeJesus, M.D., medical director at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Sarasota, was named as the 2013 Medical Director of the Year at HealthSouth’s Annual Medical Director’s Conference held in Nashville, Tenn.

The Medical Director of the Year designation, handpicked from a pool of 103 medical directors across the country by HealthSouth Chief Medical Officer Dexanne B. Clohan, M.D., and HealthSouth’s regional presidents, recognizes Dr. DeJesus’s outstanding clinical knowledge, exemplary performance in the development of quality clinical programs and overall excellence in leadership.

“Dr. DeJesus leads a highly-qualified team of nurses and therapists at HealthSouth Sarasota. His expertise in physical medicine and rehabilitation allows the hospital to offer the latest in rehabilitative treatment,” said Dr. Clohan. “His role is crucial to provide high-quality healthcare to the southwest Florida area.”

Dr. DeJesus is medical director and chief medical officer at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Sarasota. A graduate of Harvard University, Dr. DeJesus completed his medical studies at Rutgers University Medical School. He went on to perform two internships in surgery at Staten Island Hospital in New York. Additionally, Dr. DeJesus completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at New York University’s Rusk Institute. He is certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and twice has been awarded Medical Director of the Year by HealthSouth.
