Condo Fire Leaves One Dead

Posted
BRADENTON – On Wednesday, a fire in a Bradenton condominium complex caused by smoking while medical oxygen was in use claimed the life of one of the unit's residents. Another fire in NW Bradenton on Thursday sent one victim to the hospital.

At 12:52 p.m. on Wednesday, City of Bradenton Fire Department personnel responded to a structure fire in a condominium unit at 4480 Fairways Boulevard.

Upon arrival, the first responding personnel found a sprinkler-extinguished fire in a bedroom and one unresponsive burn victim. Fire personnel removed the victim from the fourth-floor unit and turned over care to Manatee County EMS. Despite efforts, the victim could not be revived.

The other resident of the unit, who was not present at the time of the fire, is being assisted by the Red Cross.

After an investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the cause was deemed accidental. No explosion occurred, as was initially reported.

On Thursday, Manatee County Public Safety–along with West Manatee FD, Cedar Hammock FD, and the City of Bradenton Fire Department–responded to the 800 block of 65th Street NW for a structure fire.

A code enforcement officer was first on-scene, assisting with moving people away from the fire. Manatee County EMS treated one person on-scene while another was transported to Blake Medical Center.
