Congress should pass a law with heavy fines, sanctions, and confiscation of equipment to stop the incessant robocalls that are more than just a nuisance; they are harassment. Friends of mine received over 30 calls a day during Medicare Advantage plan open enrollment. They thought the calls would stop after the enrollment period, but they just slowed down.
Many of the calls are not actual people but some form of AI program. This is harassment. No solicitor should be allowed to use a system where phone numbers can’t be blocked or spoofed using a nonaffiliated phone number in the call text. I have actually received a robocall that appeared to be from the physician group.
This harassment technology has gone beyond the ability of individuals to control. The cell phone companies need to step up, and Congress needs to punish companies that provide this harassment and the companies that pay the robocall companies to hawk their products. Below is what I found doing a Google search.
“Yes, phone companies can trace illegal robocalls. Through collaborative efforts called "tracebacks," telecom providers and industry groups can follow the path of a call across multiple networks to pinpoint exactly where it originated, often within a few days or even minutes.
How the Tracing Process Works
Traceback Groups: Major telecom providers participate in industry-wide alliances (like the Industry Traceback Group) that securely communicate the call flow from the network that delivered it back to the network that originated it.
Call Authentication: Using the STIR/SHAKEN framework, phone companies digitally verify that the caller ID is legitimate and hasn't been spoofed before it ever reaches your phone.
Network Termination: Once the source of an illegal robocall operation is found, telecom providers can terminate service to those bad actors, shutting down their ability to route calls.”

Well said Ray. It is time consuming harassment!

"Congress get Serious" isn't that called an oxymoron. How about they just do their jobs! Can you tell me when is the last time they did something for the American people that truly impacted us in a positive way and made our lives better.
