Council Corner: Marianne Barnebey, Ward 2

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving - full of fun, family, turkey, and FOOTBALL! I hope your team was triumphant; if not, there’s always next year! As you know, our Mayor is a Gator fan and the majority of the City Council root for FSU. We couldn’t resist adding a few touches of garnet and gold to the Mayor’s office after the big game. Mayor Brown is a very good sport!

Now we look forward to celebrating other winter holidays: Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa. In my family this is the time we are usually putting the finishing touches on the event we founded. Unfortunately, we are not able to hold our Winter Wonderland event this year.

Hurricane Ian, which caused massive devastation to our southern neighbors, also damaged our local ice plant and equipment necessary to make our snow mountains. We contacted ice vendors up and down the coast to no avail. Mayor Brown assisted, even contacting the Tampa Bay Lightning. It was an incredibly difficult decision to postpone the event to next December, but we will come back bigger and better than ever!

From my family to yours, please have a blessed holiday season!
