County Commission Passes Budget and Property Tax Millage

Posted

BRADENTON — In a Thursday night meeting that lasted all of 11 minutes, the Manatee County Commission approved a 2014-15 budget of $540.8 million. There is no increase in the property tax rates, though the budget amount is 2 percent higher as a result of increased values.

The millage rate for taxpayers in unincorporated Manatee County will again be 7.0435. Municipal residents' millage rate will remain at 6.4326. One mil equals $1 for every $1,000 in taxable property value.

All votes passed 6-0 with Commissioner DiSabatino absent. No members of the public spoke during the public hearing portion of the meeting.

Though taxable property values are recovering, they remain below their 2007 peak. County officials said at the last hearing that they will still likely need to subsidize the annual budget with county reserve funds for three more years.
