County has Sandbags Available as Storm Approaches

Posted
BRADENTON – Tropical Depression Nine is slowly moving toward Florida. On Friday, county officials urged residents to monitor the system and make preparations. Real-time updates and advisories are available at the National Hurrican Center's website.

Officials noted that many low-lying and coastal areas of Manatee County are already saturated from recent rains and could experience temporary flooding if the storm brings heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday.

"Anyone who may be concerned about flooding or residents of flood-prone areas should start making plans to stay with family or friends outside of that area," said Public Safety Deputy Director Steve Litchsauer. "It is possible for Manatee County to also see further effects from this storm, so continue to monitor Tropical Depression Nine throughout the weekend."

If any resident has potential "special needs," they are urged to register with the county immediately.

Manatee County Public Works Department has made sandbags available at the following self-serve locations:
  • Bennett Park, 400 Cypress Creek Blvd, Bradenton
  • Rubonia Community Center, 1309 72nd St. E., Palmetto
