David James Lysher, 83, passed peacefully at his home in Bradenton, FL, on October 14, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born December 7, 1938, in Bloomington, IN. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Joan Kirk on November 18, 1960, and they welcomed their daughter, Mirinda in 1961. He attended Indiana University and then in 1972 received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University. The family then relocated to Plantation, FL, where he accepted a position with Motorola where he worked for 30 years. He was known for his beautiful blue eyes, his wonderful smile, and his sweet hugs.

David was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. He was always kind and gentle but had a playful wit. He was a very adventurous man and loved trying new things: scuba diving, snow skiing, boating, tennis, golf, working on his corvettes and he was an avid reader. But more than anything he loved his family, family dinners and spending time with his grandkids, attending all their sporting events, plays and recitals. He was quick to volunteer: Boy Scout camping, CYF leader, youth bus driver, Habitat for Humanity and Meals On Wheels. He also helped with hurricane cleanup for Andrew and Katrina.

David is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Lysher; his daughter, Mirinda Hill; his 3 grandchildren, Hayden James Hill (Tessa Marie), Corinne Louise Hill, Ethan Forrest Hill (Kelsy Plummer); his sisters-in-law, Martha Ferguson and Janet Smith; a brother-in-law, Kenny Kirk; and his nieces and nephews, Julie Stalcup, Jackie Gray, Polly McCune, Jayme Scherer, Natalie VanDevender, Anthony McArtor, Kevin Kirk and Chris Kirk. David is preceded in death by his mother, Eva Steinhagen; father, Carl Lysher; stepfather, John Steinhagen; his brother, John Clinton Lysher and sisters-in-law, Linda Lysher and Erma McArtor. David and Mary Jo spent their retirement years traveling the globe and enjoying a deep and loving relationship. He attended the First United Methodist Church of Bradenton and will be deeply missed by all who had the benefit of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11 AM, Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Water’s Edge Town Center Auditorium, 3132 21st Lane West, Bradenton, FL 34205, with lunch to follow.
