David Carl Moss, known affectionately as Dave to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. Born on April 10, 1940, in Rochester, New York, Dave's journey through life was marked by his unwavering kindness, sharp intellect, and the joy he found in the company of others. Dave's early years in Rochester laid a strong foundation for a life of achievement and service. As the Valedictorian of Livonia Central School's class of 1958, he demonstrated a remarkable aptitude for learning, which he carried with him to the University of Cincinnati. There, he pursued his passion for design and structure, graduating with a degree in architecture that would pave his professional path for decades to come.
In 1971, Dave's entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish his own business in Rochester, specializing in writing specifications for roofing. His reputation for excellence and attention to detail soon became the hallmark of his firm, which he later relocated to Florida, where he continued to serve his clients with distinction until his retirement. Beyond his professional endeavors, Dave was a man of faith and fellowship and lived his beliefs through acts of kindness and a commitment to his community.
His life was complemented by his 55 years as a 32nd degree Mason with the Genesee Valley Lodge #122, where he forged lifelong friendships and contributed to numerous causes. Dave's interests were as varied as they were passionate. An avid golfer, he relished the camaraderie of the links and the challenge of the game. His love for biking and model trains spoke to his appreciation for both the journey and the intricate details of the landscapes he created. A seasoned traveler, Dave's adventures took him to all 50 states and many countries around the globe. He had an innate ability to connect with people from all walks of life, and his outgoing nature meant he never met a stranger.
Predeceased by his parents, Richard and Edna (Mairer) Moss, his brother Donald Moss, and sister Delores (Moss) Weiss, Dave's memory will be cherished and kept alive by his beloved wife of 62 years, Virginia (Prowant) Moss. He will be deeply missed by his niece Linda (Moss) Loughlin and her husband Michael, his nephew Robert Moss and wife Maria, his loved niece Shari Weiss-Riojas and husband Joe, and his loved great nephew Andrew Loughlin and wife Lisa. His legacy will also live on through the many great nieces and nephews who will continue to be inspired by his life.
His was a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and the pursuit of excellence. As we say goodbye to David Carl Moss, we celebrate a man who built more than structures; he built a life rich with enduring relationships and marked by a profound impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
