BRADENTON – The Daytona Cubs (16-26) scored the game’s final four run on the way to a 4-2 win over the Marauders on Wednesday at McKechnie Field. Jason Creasy struck out five Cubs while allowing one run over five innings, but received a no decision as the Cubs rallied to win.
The Marauders plated a single run in the first and third innings on sacrifice fly outs by D.J. Crumlich. Jeff Roy set up the first by doubling off Tyler Ihrig and stealing third base in the first. Raul Fortunato led off the third with a single, stole second, and went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Roy before Crumlich put the Marauders up 2-0.
Daytona plated a run in the fifth against Creasy, but stranded the tying run at third in the inning. The Cubs got the tying run to third base for a second straight inning with one out, but Robby Rowland (L, 1-5) got a pop out and a fly out. To keep the Marauders on top.
Daytona took the lead in the seventh inning on a two-run homer by Marco Hernandez against Rowland. The Cubs tacked on a run in the ninth on Gioskar Amaya’s RBI single to score Wilson Contreras.
The Marauders and Cubs play the third game of the series Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Tyler Glasnow will start on the mound for the Marauders.
