Bradenton, Florida - Deborah Irene Day Poor, 80, passed away December 2, 2024, after an extended illness. Debby, (as known to her friends and family) was born August 8, 1944, in Williamson, New York.

In 1968 Debby wed Nathan Poor. Debby is survived by her two sons, Nathan Poor (Charlotte) of Venice, Florida, and Jason Poor (Beata) of Bradenton, Florida. Also surviving is her dear friend and sister-in-law LeArda Day of The Villages, Florida. She was recently preceded in death by her niece Holly Day.

While living in Lakland, Florida raising her children she took great pleasure in teaching swimming to the local youth at Florida Southern College and at her home from 1975-1986, where she was lovingly referred to as "Miss Debby". She frequently reflected upon that time as being some of the happiest of her life. She remained in contact with many of her students long into their adulthood.

A woman of great intellect and a strong sense of purpose, Debby entered Florida State University in the early 90's and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Master's Degree in Psychology.

Well known to many in Polk County, Florida, she became a lecturer, teacher, and psychotherapist. For many years she shared office space with her longtime friend and colleague, Donella Davidson, who, with her husband and two sons, became like "family."

Debby was renowned nationwide in her work and received several acknowledgements and awards for her devotion in the field of Psychology. As a lasting legacy, she also authored three "Self-Help" books.

Debby was also quite competitive in her love of doubles tennis and golf. Her past 10 years were spent living in River Isles, Bradenton, Florida. Though continuing her Psychology work on a lesser scale, she became more involved and passionate about her golf game and won several trophies. In River Isles she enjoyed her friendships and loved her weekly card games with "The Gang." During those days she brought much laughter and joy to so many.

Debby was a woman of strong faith. She will be remembered as a very generous spirit, always assisting those in need. Her smile, humor and laughter lit up a room and she will be dearly missed.

As per her request, donations may be made to her favorite charity, St. Jude's.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Unity Church of Sarasota located at 3023 Proctor rd., Sarasota, FL 34231, on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
