County Commissioner Gwen Brown has found herself in the awkward position of possibly having her commissioner's salary garnished to satisfy a judgment obtained against her. On March 19 of this year, CACH LLC, a debt collection firm out of Orlando, was awarded a $31,435

judgment for debts past due. On May 19, they filed a motion with the Manatee Clerk of the Court's office to have her commissioner's salary garnished, naming Manatee County as the garnishee.
The filing is another embarrassing moment for the sixteen-year commissioner. Earlier this year, Brown was in hot water for misusing county staff and resources for personal business. She reimbursed the county $1,800 and publicly apologized. Brown is up for re-election this fall and faces fellow Democrat Michael Gallen in an August primary.
