January 20, 1943 - August 28, 2023

Diane Root Dalton, a beacon of love, joy, and strength, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on August 28, 2023. Born to Marie and Frank Root in Long Island, New York, Diane grew up in Springfield, Pennsylvania and vacationed with her family in Cape May, New Jersey every summer. It was there she met Edgar R. Dalton at the tender age of 4 and a sweet childhood friendship blossomed into a lifelong commitment to each other.

They married on November 23, 1963, soon after their college graduation. Diane, an educator at heart, earned a degree in Education from Penn State University and dedicated her years to helping shape young minds when she was not supporting Edgar in his journey through Dental School at Temple University.

In 1969, they made Bradenton, Florida their home. An active participant in her community, Diane showcased her pragmatic acuity through the successful development of Manatee County which included the construction of three professional complexes and a 60-unit apartment complex.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Diane was profoundly loved as a nurturing mother to three wonderful daughters; Laura (Bill) Hahn, Valerie (Ben) Paul, and Maria (Shane) Johnson. The joy in her life multiplied with the arrival of her seven adored grandchildren - Alley Hansen, Lindsey Hahn, Elizabeth Paul, Katie Paul, Alex Paul, Mia Johnson, Sadie Johnson and two great-grandchildren - Cayden Corona, Harper Hansen. In addition, she was a loving sister to Dale (Walt) Rutkowsky; and her nephews; Aron and Adam Rutkowsky, and a multitude of cousins; in-laws; nieces; and nephews, much beloved.

Adored by her grandchildren, Diane's vivacity and matchless nurturing spirit earned her the affectionate nickname "Meme." Shoulder to shoulder with her grandchildren at numerous dance recitals, sporting events, and art shows, Diane was their biggest cheerleader and constant guiding star. Her love for life and charismatic personality punctuated every celebration, big or small, leaving an unforgettable imprint on everyone.

A woman of inexhaustible energy, Diane maintained an adventurous spirit. Whether she was exploring the Galapagos, trekking through Alaska, or relishing the urban bustle of New York, Diane was always ready to embrace life's wonders. Her unwavering joy unhinged the doors to the world for her grandkids, inspiring them to explore their every potential.

Meme, deeply imbued the essence of family, support and love in her grandkids. She was their protector, their cheerleader, their guide, and their friend. And although she is no longer with us here, her love and lessons live on, her memory eternally entwined with everyone who was blessed to have known her.

As we mourn her passing, we are comforted in knowing that Meme, our pillar of strength, is watching over us, reminding us to embrace life, to love generously, and to always keep our dukes up.

In closing, we invite you to remember Diane in your thoughts and prayers during this challenging time. The family has chosen to honor her memory privately. Thank you.
