BRADENTON — Popular former Republican state Senator Paula Dockery said last week that she would support presumed-Democratic Challenger Charlie Crist over Governor Rick Scott, assuming the two square off in a 2014 gubernatorial race, as expected.
According to reports, the Lakeland Republican told the Tiger Bay Club of Tampa that she “can’t see a scenario by which I would stand by a Scott administration.”
Dockery has a long history of clashing with Scott prior to terming out from the Florida Senate in 2012. She says that Crist has the best chance against the incumbent governor because of his tremedous statewide name recognition.
Dockery said she is not as proud to be a Republican than when she entered politics in 1996, and also said that she is finished running for elected office.
