Donnie Carol Hicks, a man of steadfast faith and boundless love, was gently called to his eternal home on September 23, 2025. Born on July 29, 1952, in Wise County, Virginia, Donnie led a life marked by devotion, creativity, and service. He cherished the warm embrace of Bradenton, Florida, where he peacefully passed, leaving a legacy of wisdom and kindness.
Donnie was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. His heart first belonged to his late wife, Rena Diane Hicks, with whom he shared a love that set a profound example for all who knew them. In Mary Hicks, he found a cherished companion, continuing his journey of love and commitment. His children, Beth Mercer, Amanda Ferris, and James Hicks, were his pride and joy, and he delighted in the lively spirits of his eighteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who will carry his memory into the future.
In his professional life, Donnie dedicated many years to the service of Manatee County, where his diligent work and warm camaraderie left a lasting impression on his colleagues. He was not only a man of work but also a man of God. As a devout Christian, Donnie infused his faith into every aspect of his life. He volunteered tirelessly, offering his skills in woodworking and construction to churches throughout Florida, ensuring that places of worship could welcome all who sought solace and community.
Donnie's love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for fishing. His hands, both strong and gentle, created marvels of wood, each piece a testament to his patience and attention to detail. He was also a poet at heart, crafting verses that spoke of life's simplicities and profound truths, touching the hearts of those who read his words.
Donnie Hicks could be described with these words: faith-filled, handy, and wise. His life was a sermon of actions, teaching others the virtue of honest labor, the solace of prayer, and the joy of giving. Donnie's last breath here on earth ushered him into the eternal presence of his Savior Jesus Christ. His wisdom will echo in the laughter of his grandchildren, his craftsmanship will be admired in the homes and churches he helped build, and his words will live on as a comforting embrace to those he leaves behind.
We celebrate a life beautifully lived, a journey completed, and a soul that has undoubtedly heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." Donnie's memory will not just be here today and gone tomorrow; it will guide and inspire us to live with purpose, build God's Kingdom, and follow in the footsteps of the legacy Donnie built on Christ. As we bid farewell, we hold onto the hope of reunion that our faith has promised.
