Dorajean Searls

Posted

We are joyfully remembering our dear friend, Dorajean Searls, fondly known as "Jean". She went to her heavenly rest on September 18, 2026, at the age of 81. Jean proudly served in the United States Navy Reserve, as a Petty Officer for 18 years, working in the area of Naval Intelligence. Her dedication and commitment to her country were a meaningful part of her life and a reflection of her strength and character.

In Jean's teaching career, she was at Chicago Archdiocese Schools and was an instructor at the Chicago City Colleges. The greatest part of her career was spent educating young people as an English teacher, and Department Chair, at Brother Rice High School in Chicago, Illinois. Through her teaching, she touched the lives of many students and shared her knowledge, encouragement and love of learning. Many students still stay in touch with her.

Above all, Jean will be remembered as a wonderful friend. She was loved dearly by so many people, and her friendships were a special part of her life. She would say she had three families: Her Brother Rice Family, her Navy Family and her Village Green Family, where she lived.

Jean will be deeply missed, but her life, her service, her teaching and the love she shared with others will never be forgotten. Rest peacefully, dear Jean.

A memorial service for Jean will be held at 11AM on Friday, October 30, 2026, at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street, Bradenton, Florida 34209.
