Nelson , Doug
6/26/1954 - Bradenton
Douglas Scot Nelson, 70, passed away peacefully in Bradenton, Fla., with his true love, Nancy by his side. He was born on June 26, 1953 to Helen and Richard Nelson in Grand Rapids, MI.
Known as Dougie, he was a beloved husband, brother, father, uncle, and friend. He touched the lives of many with his kindness, humor, and unwavering love. His laugh was remarkable and just hearing it would make you smile. He always gave you a great, big bear hug, if you'd let him.
Doug spent the majority of his career in the sale of industrial pipe, valves, and fittings and worked hard to maintain loyalty and took great care of his customer relationships. He was known for his generosity of time, volunteering as President of the Land of Lakes Association for many years while living at Blue Lake. He had a passion for golfing, boating, ice fishing, snowmobiling and science-fiction books and films. On most days you would find him in his favorite denim, Bib Overalls and a bandanna. He had a wicked-cool vinyl record collection, which he enthusiastically shared with friends, along with his love of live music and pre-concert shenanigans. He had a knack for collecting every tool imaginable, if you needed something, Doug would have it in the pink house.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Nancy Nelson, and is survived by their children Lucas Nelson and Julie Grady (husband Jeff), and many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends, especially Greg Mellema whom he spent hours chatting about anything and everything. He was preceded in death by his brother David Nelson and grandson Justin Nelson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 28 at 2:00 p.m. ET at the Land of Lakes Association Club House located at 16189 Oakman Dr. NE, Sand Lake, MI. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Doug Nelson's life.
In lieu of flowers, plant a tree in Doug's memory.
All his loved ones were waiting for him and his wife Nancy will join him when God makes it her time
