Dr. Andre J. Renard, 82, of Holmes Beach, FL, passed away on November 22, 2022.

It's with sadness we announce the passing of Andre Joseph Adrian Renard, M.D., age 82, on Nov. 22, 2022. Andre passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with Parkinsons disease. Andre will be remembered for his humility, sense of humor, kindness, sense of adventure, and talent in his surgical profession and art. He was a loving husband, father and friend to many. Andre was born in Brussels, Belgium to Louis & Emma Renard. His two siblings, Claudine and Daniele (who predeceased him). Andre attended Medical School at in Brussels and did his Residency at St. Gilles Hospital in Brussels, Belgium. He practiced Internal Medicine until making the big move to the United States in 1970 with his wife Arlette their children for a full Residency in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery. His original intent was to go back to Belgium after 7 years of training but decided to stay in Jacksonville with his family. His children, Valerie, Alexandra and Laurent attended schools in Jacksonville while Andre practiced with Bernie Kay, founder of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He was a skilled Plastic Surgeon who spearheaded Micro-thumb re-implantation surgery, TRAM flap used for breast reconstruction after cancer, transgender surgery with a team in Jacksonville and many other cutting-edge surgeries at that time. He is published in Plastic Surgery journals for the 'Renard Flap', reconstruction of the ear.

In 1993, Andre moved to Manatee County. He married Carol Whitmore in 1994 and practiced in Manatee County & Sarasota County until his retirement in 2014. Many of his surgical/medical colleagues and friends referred to him as the maestro and renaissance man due to his surgical talents of very difficult cases and artistic talents. A self-taught artist, he was recognized by the Florida Medical Journal and drew the cover of the journal for eight years. He showed his work in New York at the New York Art Expo. A true Renaissance man, he was passionate about life and family. His talents included being an exceptional painter, a great dancer, a Green Beret, a brown belt in Judo and an avid equestrian & polo player. He also gave his time by providing free medical attention to indigent patients in his private practice and at Turning Points.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Renard Whitmore; son, Laurent (Marie-France); daughters, Valerie, Alexandra (Thom) and Janae (Scott) along with grandchildren, Sabrina, Michael, Stephanie, Kyle, Tessa, Sophia, Cale & Camden. He also leaves behind his sister, Claudine, other extended family, and many close friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Sarasota Polo Club, 8201 Polo Club Lane, Sarasota, FL 34240 in Lakewood Ranch.
