Dunedin Shuts Out Bradenton

DUNEDIN – The Marauders (53-45, 18-11) were beaten 3-0 by the Dunedin Blue Jays (61-39, 15-16) on Monday morning at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. Dunedin starter Taylor Cole (W, 7-5), who entered the day leading the Florida State League in strikeouts, recorded a season high 12 whiffs.

Pat Ludwig (L, 2-2) started for Bradenton, tossing seven innings and allowing two runs while striking out three. Dwight Smith Jr. tagged Ludwig for a solo home run in the fourth inning to open the scoring. Kevin Patterson’s RBI double in the seventh provided the only other run off Ludwig.

Tyler Sample made his Marauders debut in the eighth inning, surrendering an unearned run while picking up a strikeout.

Bradenton’s best threat came in the top of the eighth. Trailing 2-0, Ashley Ponce walked against Wil Browning with one away. Justin Maffei followed with a hit-and-run single to put men at the corners. Browning then struck out Walker Gourley, before walking Max Moroff to load the bases. Browning struck out Barrett Barnes the strand the bags full. Arik Sikula  (S, 22) pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the save.

The series continues in Bradenton on Tuesday night. Tyler Glasnow will be on the mound for the Marauders with first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
