Early Voting Ends Saturday for Manatee Special Election

BRADENTON – Early voting for the special referendum votes on a half-cent sales tax to fund indigent care programs and tax abatements for businesses ends Saturday. Early voting can be done at the Supervisor of Elections office today from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Voters can also vote at their precinct on Election Day, Tuesday June 18, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

Manatee County will test its new print-on-demand ballot system at the  Supervisor of Elections office during the early voting period beginning June 8. If all goes as planned, that should mean additional early voting locations will be available in the November 2014 elections.

Manatee County voters will decide whether the county should raise its sales tax a half-cent to pay for indigent health care programs that are currently paid for by the corpus fund created when the county sold Manatee Memorial Hospital to private interests. That fund is expected to expire in 2015.

On a separate referendum, voters will decide whether to give property tax abatements to large, qualifying businesses to entice them to move to Manatee County, and to existing businesses that make large enough expansions of their Manatee County operations.

All early voting will take place at the Supervisor of Elections office, which is located adjacent to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office headquarters at 600 301 Blvd. W, Suite 108, Bradenton FL 34205. Voters can still vote at their normal precinct location on Election Day (June 18). For more information on registering to vote, visit their website.
