In Loving Memory of Edna Cecile Anthony Wood
Cecile passed away peacefully on Sept 8, 2026 at the age of 83, leaving behind a legacy of strength, love and inspiration. Born in Atlanta, Ga May 13,1943, Cecile was a vibrant force of nature who approached both her professional and personal life with passion and determination. Cecile graduated from Russell High School where she was a Varsity Cheerleader and was Voted as “Best Personality”.
Cecile began working at Delta Airlines at the Corporate Headquarters and was quickly recognized as a leader with great potential. While in the Employment Office, she interviewed and hired thousands of employees, processing new employees during mergers and eventually working in the EEOC office of Delta. During her distinguished career at Delta Airlines, she broke glass ceilings and paved the way for future generations of women in the aviation industry. Cecile was a true trailblazer.
Her sharp intellect and work ethic were matched only by her zest for life. Cecile lived in Griffin, Ga for many years, where she raised her family and enjoyed the slow pace of life surrounded by horses, dogs, cats and nature. Upon retirement she lived in Newnan, Ga, where she was an active member of Crossroads Church. She moved to Florida in 2014 to be closer to her daughter. Throughout her life, Cecile enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening and her beloved pets.
Cecile was a survivor with an indomitable spirit. She faced many obstacles in her life--surviving a horse accident, an airplane crash and breast cancer. She saw no obstacle too big and never gave up. She fought to overcome each physical and mental battle that came her way with resilience and grace.
Cecile was a proud mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She is survived by two loving brothers, Gregory (Ann) Anthony and Philip Anthony; devoted children Cindy Eley and Doug (Debby) Wood; grandchildren Ashley Michele Ommen, Lauren Wood and Jonathan Wood and great-grandchildren, Gemma, Camilla, Theo, and Archer, as well as nieces and nephews, Steven, Candace, Alex, Hannah, and Abigail. She was preceded in death by her parents Euell Anthony and Teenie Humphrey and her husband, Steve Wood. A celebration of her remarkable life will be held on Saturday Sept 19.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
