Ellen Rowena Meade recently transitioned peacefully to God's Heavenly Kingdom, in the loving embrace of her husband of 43 years, Craig Thomas. Ellen was born in Manatee County and was a loyal 1970 MHS alumni and cheerleader.

Her exceptional lifetime achievements read like a fairytale come true. Renowned for her graciousness, radiant smile, and timeless elegance, she pursued her passion for ballet and roller skating at age 7. She won the North American Championship and graced the cover of Skate Magazine at 16. Later she earned the titles of Florida Roller Skating Queen and National Roller Skating Queen of America. In 1973 she won the coveted title of Miss Florida and proudly represented Florida, being honored as a talent award recipient at the Miss America Pageant. Her national title as Miss Dogpatch USA 1974 is where she captured the heart of her future husband, playing the role of Li'l Abner.

Ellen's lifelong devotion to the performing arts inspired her to establish Ellen Meade Studios in Bradenton, which has a legacy spanning five decades. Here she imparted her diverse wisdom to countless students, leaving an indelible mark as a gifted international model, stage and screen actress, choreographer, director, and producer. For years, she produced the Manatee County pageants for Miss Florida and the Manatee County Fair, contributing to the cultural fabric of her beloved community. Ellen was not only a luminary in the world of the arts and pageantry but also a philanthropist who dedicated countless hours and generously donated thousands of dollars in scholarships to various humanitarian causes.

She is preceded in death by her father, Rowe Meade; and survived by her mother, Audrey Meade; brother, Bruce, his wife, Ellen, and their children; Bryce and Blake; along with their respective families. Ellen's extraordinary legacy will continue to illuminate the lives of future generations, a testament to the immense talents and loving-kindness she unconditionally shared.

A joyful Celebration of her Life will be announced and in lieu of flowers, a non-profit, scholarship foundation will also be established in her honor at a later date.
