Emelda Matute, born on January 13, 1937, in the Cayo District of Belize, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, in Miami, Florida, surrounded by love. She was 88 years old.

Emelda was a strong, faithful, and deeply loving woman who devoted her life to her family. She was always there when her loved ones needed her, offering guidance, comfort, and unwavering support. A woman of strong faith, she raised her family with a foundation rooted in a relationship with God and a deep respect for education, values that continue through generations.

She was an example of resilience, kindness, and unconditional love. Emelda had a special gift for bringing people together, especially through her love of cooking. She made the best Belizean food and shared not only her meals but her heart with everyone around her.

Her kitchen was a place of warmth, laughter, and lasting memories. Emelda is survived by her children: Cecilia Salter, Renaldo Rivero, Rufina Propst, Elida Matute, Charles Matute, Margareth Sweeney, Elizabeth Matute, and Yvette Martin, who preceded her in death. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren.

Her legacy of faith, love, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Emelda Matute will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, January 10,2026 from 11AM-1PM at Brown & Sons 26th Street Chapel, following by a funeral service at 1 PM. Burial will follow at Skyway Memorial Gardens.
