Eugene H. Ames

Eugene H. Ames, 91, of Bradenton, FL, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on December 6, 2022.

He was born in Portland, Maine on October 20, 1931. He enlisted in the US Army in December of 1948 and was honorably discharged in July 1952. He served active military in Korea from 1949-1951 in the 24th Division 21st Infantry Regiment. He was wounded in action on May 10, 1951. He has 5 bronze stars a Purple Heart and a Combat Infantry Badge. He moved to Florida in 1952 and met the love of his life, Barbara M Poyzer, they were married on April 6, 1954. They were married 66 years before Barbara passed away on June 1, 2020.They had one son, Eugene H. Ames, Jr., who cared for his father with his wife, Linda and his respected caregiver Melody Williams until he passed.

Eugene, Sr. lived his life in a manner consistent with the teachings of God and took every opportunity in his life to let his light shine. He had a great sense of humor and loved to play the harmonica and fiddled with the drums too, he enjoyed his great-grandchildren, Aidan and Kaelan playing music. He was an original member of the Appalachian Trail Club of Florida. He did cartoons for their newsletter and created their logo and they still use the logo today. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association, DAV and VFW. He was a member of the Society for Preservation and Advancement of the Harmonica (SPAH). He and Barbara belonged to the Church of God, A Worldwide Association.

Eugene is survived by his son, Eugene H. Ames, Jr. and his wife, Linda; grandchildren, Madison Sholl and Briana Eldridge; great-grandchildren, Aidan and Kaelan Farrell and his nieces and nephews, Erica, Stacey, April, Danny, Danice, Donna, Darlynne, David, Daryle, Raymond, Karen, Carol, Deborah, Allison and Katherine(Kitty) all who adored him. He was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Thelma (Dorsett) Ames; his brothers, Howard, Jr. and Allan; his sisters, Dorothy Conlin and Jackie Bentley and his precious wife, Barbara M. Ames.

Graveside Services with full Military Honors, 1:00 PM, Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 Hwy 72, Sarasota, FL, 34241. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 26th Street Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
