BRADENTON – Charles Heaven, who was wanted by the Manatee Sheriff's Office as a suspect in the murder of his daughter's boyfriend in a shooting at The Venue at Lockwood Apartments, turned himself in on Thursday, confessing to the homicide.
Heaven, 48, shot and killed 30-year-old Keith Smith on Tuesday night at his daughter's apartment complex near U.S. 301 and SR70. Smith was dating Heaven's 24-year-old daughter, according to the MCSO report. Heaven faces a second-degree murder charge.
An argument reportedly began inside the apartment before moving outside, where Heaven drew a gun and shot Smith in the chest. Smith was pronounced dead at Blake Medical Center that same evening.
