Film Rush 2014 Brings Local Students' Films to South Florida Museum

BRADENTON – The most talented, creative, and innovative student filmmakers in the Manatee County School District will showcase their films on the big screen at 6 p.m., Friday, April 4, 2014, during Film Rush 2014: A Jim Harbin Student Media Festival at the South Florida Museum. Admission to the event is free, and the public is welcome.

Film Rush is Manatee County’s competition for FAME’s (Florida Association for Media in Education) Jim Harbin Festival. The festival is in honor of Jim Harbin, a former Florida DOE consultant, who originated the idea of a statewide student media festival.

Film Rush began as a competition to showcase Manatee County’s student filmmakers. For the first time, MAME coordinated the festival, incorporating Jim Harbin criteria and requirements for state competition with the help of the district’s Department of Library Media Services, EDV-TV, the State College of Florida Film Club, and the South Florida Museum, MAME expanded the competition to include elementary filmmakers and offer students the opportunity to compete at the state level.

A jury of the Film Club of State College of Florida evaluated student films and selected the top entries to showcase at the festival. Submission categories include Animation, Book Trailers, Comedy, Documentary, Drama, Instructional, Music Video, News Feature, News Show, and PSA.

The South Florida Museum is located at 201 10th St. W., in downtown Bradenton.
