Parrish, Florida - It is with great sadness that we must announce that George Michael (Mike) Wolf passed away at Lakewood Ranch Hospital, Florida, on 10/13/23 at 7:14 pm.
Mike was born on 10/26/44 in Henderson, Kentucky to Charles (Buddy) and Mildred (Tootsie) Wolf. He graduated from Henderson High School in 1962. After high school, Mike immediately joined the Navy; he was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Pandemus out of Norfolk, VA, where he served 2 years in the position of an electronics technician.
After the Navy, Mike worked for IBM as a computer programmer until he retired at age 55. In retirement, he kept busy by working at Sears, as a sales associate, and for Whitaker Brothers, where he sold industrial paper shredders to the U. S. government.
However, the "job" that was the most meaningful and gratifying to Mike was his volunteer work at Southeastern Guide Dogs in Palmetto, FL. He adored dogs and was honored to be able to help however he could, whether that be guiding a tour or cleaning up.
Mike also enjoyed spending time with his wife, Lynn. They liked eating out at local restaurants, taking cruises, and various other activities. Mike and Lynn loved spending time together regardless of what they were doing.
He liked to play the guitar and sing songs by the Kingston Trio and John Denver. He even took banjo lessons at one point. Mike was also handy around the house and enjoyed building things (especially woodworking).
Mike had a terrific sense of humor and was known for joking around and being goofy. He was a funny guy who loved to laugh and to make people laugh. Personally, he greatly appreciated the humor of W. C. Fields.
It goes without saying that Mike will be very much missed by his family and friends - his humor, love, friendship, and just knowing that he was out there somewhere being Mike was priceless.
Burial Services will be held on Friday, November 17th at 10:30 am at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rd. 72, Sarasota, FL 34241
