See the draft CAPER report:

On Tuesday, Dec. 1, during the regular County Commission meeting, a public hearing will be heard for commissioners to receive citizen comments on the draft Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report, also known as CAPER.

The County Commission meets in the Chambers at the county Administrative Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Under Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended, and the Cranston-Gonzalez National Affordable Housing Act of 1990, the county is required to submit an annual performance report to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development on how Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnership (HOME) funds were spent and the status of activities during the program year.

The draft report describes the activities that took place in the 2008-09 program year that were used to address the needs of low-income people. It gives an assessment of the county's Five-Year Goals and Objectives, which include acts to affirmatively further fair housing, needs of the homeless or people with special needs, and affordable housing.

A 15-day comment period began on Nov. 20 and will conclude on Dec. 7. Copies of the CAPER may be reviewed at the Manatee County Neighborhood Services Department, 1112 Manatee Ave. W., Fifth Floor, Bradenton, and also at the following Manatee County Library locations:

  • Central Branch, 1301 Barcarrota Blvd. W., Bradenton

  • South County Branch, 6081 26th St. W., Bradenton

  • Braden River Branch, 4915 53rd Ave. E., Bradenton

  • Palmetto Branch, 923 Sixth St. W., Palmetto

  • Rocky Bluff Branch, 7016 U. S. Hwy. 301, Ellenton

Upon payment of a reasonable charge, interested persons can get a copy of the draft CAPER.

Written comments can be submitted until Dec. 7 to Suzie Dobbs, Community Development Manager, Manatee County Neighborhood Services Department, 1112 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton, FL 34205, or by e-mail.
