Henry E. Witt, Jr.

Posted

The skies were turbulent on Sunday, January 18, 2026, the day that our beloved Henry E. Witt Jr., affectionately known to all as Hank, departed this earthly realm surrounded by his family. Henry was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 25, 1943. He raised his family as a long-time resident of Elmwood Park, Illinois before retiring to Bradenton, Florida.

He was a man of many talents and an artist at heart. A skilled machinist by trade, Hank's hands were not only adept at the intricacies of his profession but also at sculpting beauty from the mundane, a testament to his artistic spirit. His sculptures and artworks were not mere objects, but conversations carved in time, each piece a story of its own.

Hank's love for boating and cooking were also well-known; he navigated both the waters and the kitchen with equal grace, his wit the perfect seasoning to every gathering. In the community of Wildwood Springs, Hank was more than a resident; he was a pillar, a friend, and the unofficial mayor who greeted everyone with a smile that was both wise and welcoming.

His ability to solve problems was legendary, not just in the practical sense as a handyman but in the way he offered counsel that helped lighten the load. He is now in eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy embodied by his loving family. His wife, Josephine, and daughters Michelle, Rochelle (Gino), Susan (Dan), and Jacqueline carry forward his spirit of kindness and resilience and continue to walk in the light of his example.

His grandchildren Cassandra, Julia, Victoria, Kortnie, Cory, and Kaylin, and great-grandchildren Zya, Amiri, Moses, Alexi, and Liv, will grow up with stories of his life's adventures and the wisdom he shared. Hank's departure, due to mesothelioma, has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but the memory of his infectious wit, his friendly demeanor, and the love he had for his family and friends will forever be cherished.

As we bid farewell to Hank, we are reminded we were so blessed to have this man in our lives. He taught us priceless lessons and loved us immensely. Let us celebrate Hank's journey with the joy he gave us. His story does not end here; it lives on in the countless lives he touched, the family he cherished, and the community he helped build.

Henry E. Witt Jr.'s legacy is a tapestry woven with threads of humor, wisdom, and friendliness. His art will continue to hang on the walls of those who love him, and his memories will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, Hank, until we meet again.
