Improvements to Bradenton's Love Park Approved by City Council

Posted

BRADENTON - At Wednesday's Council Meeting, the Bradenton City Council approved the use of almost $6,000 in city Impact Fees for making various improvements for Love Park.

The investment also includes $8,500 given from the State of Florida for use on Martin Luther King Day of Service for the upcoming January 18 MLK holiday, as well as $2,400 from the Central Community Redevelopment Agency's Tax Increment Funding revenue.

Rebekah Brightbill, former CCRA manager, advised the council that her department requested funding from the state for discretionary funds for the MLK DoS back in June of 2013, and identified other sources of funding that would facilitate the project "for minimal local investment."

Among the changes to be made to the park with the funding will be the replacement of drinking fountains, basketball hoops, playground equipment, barbeque grills, and rearranging of the park gazebos.

The vote came to 4-0, with Councilman Bemis Smith absent from the meeting.
