This Thanksgiving morning, local families and runners are coming together for a brand-new holiday tradition with a purpose: the Inaugural Manatee River Turkey Trot Bridge Run, hosted by the Palmetto Marriott Resort & Spa and Fit2Run. This is our newest race – our 4500-registrant Florida Turkey Trot at Nathan Benderson Park sells-out each year prior to the event.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Big Bill Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) organization created in honor of Fit2Run co-founder Bill Robinson. The foundation provides academic scholarships to young survivors of childhood cancer, helping students achieve their educational goals after battling serious illness.
Key Highlights & News Angles:
• Running for a Cause: Every step supports higher education scholarships for local youth and young adults who have battled childhood cancer.
• Scenic Bridge Route: The Desoto Bridge will be closed for the first time. A rare opportunity for participants to run or walk across the Manatee River with panoramic sunrise views.
• Family & Youth Focus: Features a dedicated Kids Dash (ages 12 & under) alongside the main 5K, making it an all-ages family tradition.
• Resort-Style Post-Race Party: Participants receive chip-timed bibs, finisher medals, race shirts, and complimentary food and drinks hosted by the Palmetto Marriott Resort & Spa.
