BRADENTON -- The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission wants to hear from saltwater anglers about fishing. A subtropical ridge of bad weather will remain over the southern and central waters through the next several days, but don't be deterred because a new moon on Thursday should produce some of the best fishing of the month! Anglers are advised to target nearshore rock piles which are producing good flounder fishing. Anchoring right at the edge of the rocks has been a winning tactic according to local charter captains. 

2011 Boating Statistics Now Available 

• Sixty-seven people lost their lives in Florida last year in boating accidents, and there have already been 28 deaths so far this year, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), which has released its 2011 Boating Accident Statistical Report http://myfwc.com/boating/safety-education/boating-accidents. The FWC is responsible for reviewing, analyzing and compiling boating accident data for the state. Its statistical report details boating accidents and their causes.

A subtropical ridge axis aligned over the southern waters from the Atlantic will slowly lift north...to the central waters through the end of the week...and then northern Florida by early next week. Winds and seas will be below headline criteria through the period.

Friday

South winds around 5 knots becoming west in the afternoon. Bay and inland waters smooth. A slight chance of thunderstorms. Friday night will bring northwest winds around 5 knots becoming southeast after midnight. Bay and inland waters smooth.

Saturday

South winds around 5 knots becoming west in the afternoon. Bay and inland waters smooth. A slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Saturday night will bring east winds around 5 knots. Bay and inland waters smooth.

Sunday

East winds around 5 knots. Bay and inland waters smooth. A slight chance of thunderstorms in the morning then a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Sunday night will bring southeast winds around 10 knots. Bay and inland waters a light chop.
