BRADENTON -- This weekend's focus will be on the most popular fishing tournament in the Tampa Bay Area, the 29th Annual Crosthswait Memorial Fishing Tournament! It is the largest Amateur Fishing Tournament on the West coast. The Crosthwait fishing tournament has grown yearly and now has over 100 boats entering the 3 day event! This year's event is on May 18-20 held at the Bradenton Yacht Club, and includes Offshore, Inshore, and Fly fishing divisions. Over $20,000 dollars in cash and prizes are awarded. For the 3rd consecutive year, proceeds benefit the Crosthwait Memorial Educational Scholarship Program providing scholarships to local students. Procrastinators still have a chance to register -- late registration begins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, and the Captain's meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Fishing Forecast

Weak surface high pressure will remain over the region tonight through Thursday with light winds and low seas. The high will sink south on Friday as a weak frontal trough moves into the central waters. The trough will wash out across the region on Saturday as stronger surface high pressure builds down the eastern Seaboard during Sunday and Monday. A tightening pressure in response to the building high to the north and lower pressure over the Caribbean will result in an increasing northeast to easterly wind flow over the Gulf waters late in the weekend and into early week.
