Janis R Carlock, 71, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2024, peacefully with her family at her home in Bradenton, FL. Janis was born December 8, 1952, in Pittsburgh, PA, to William R. Giordanengo and Mary E. Haid. She was the 3rd of four children and sister to Laura, Ron and Bill.

She graduated from Charleroi High School in Charleroi, PA, followed by the University of California in PA, earning a BA in Education and minor in Art, the beginning of what would become a lifelong love of teaching and the arts. She started her career as a teacher's aide in Washington, PA, then taught Kindergarten at Bradenton Academy after relocating to Florida. She adored teaching young children and delighted in watching them learn new things "when the light came on". Her love of teaching and young children continued through caring for her first grandchild, Hunter.

Janis met her husband of 47 years in Charleroi, PA. Their children, Charles John (CJ) and Brianne Rochelle (Bri) were born in 1978 and 1980 in Monongahela, PA. The family moved from Pennsylvania to Bradenton, FL, in 1987.

She was a lifeguard in her youth and avid swimmer, helping to teach all her grandchildren to swim. Her family was central to everything for her. Janis was a devoted mother to her children and "Grammy" to her grandchildren, always saying "I love you to the moon and back". She adored the beach, Danielle Steele novels, puzzles, and painting, most recently making murals on hurricane shutters for their house. She loved hosting family gatherings, making her famous "Grammy Dip", lasagna, and peppers and sausage, always making extra for unexpected guests.

She is predeceased by her parents. Janis is survived by her husband, Larry; son, Charles (Kathryn); daughter, Brianne (Adam); grandchildren, Hunter Lawrence Seglem, Charles Connor Carlock, and Anna Josephine Carlock; brothers, William and Ronald Giordanengo and sister, Laura Giordanengo; nieces, Jamie Taylor, Desiree Francis, Jennifer Hineline, and Brittany Salopek; sister-in-law, Valorie Salopek and brother-in-law, Kevin Carlock.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Janis' name to Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital (https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/all-childrens-hospital).
