Joe Oelker passed away on May 26, 2026, in Bradenton, Florida. He was 68 years old. Born on May 27, 1957, in Urbana, Ohio, Joe lived a life marked by hard work, kindness, and a genuine love for the people around him.

Joe was the son of the late Richard Oelker and the late Carolyn Oelker. He was also preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Sarah Oelker. He is survived by his sister, Becky Oelker; his sons, Cody Oelker and Travis Oelker; and his daughters-in-law, Chelsea Oelker and Des Oelker.

Family meant a great deal to Joe, and those who knew him best understood that his love for his family was deep and enduring. He carried both pride and tenderness in the way he spoke about the people he loved. Joe was especially proud of his sons, the families they built, and the lives they created. He was a devoted and proud grandfather to his three grandchildren - Collins, Eleanor, and Teddy - who brought him great joy and were a source of immense pride.

Joe spent his life working hard and serving others in many different ways. He was the owner of the Cortez Kitchen restaurant for 19 years, where he became known not only as a businessman, but also as a familiar and welcoming presence to many. Through the years, he also worked as a farmer, a sheriff’s deputy, and a school maintenance worker. Each role reflected a different part of who he was, but all of them spoke to his strong work ethic, his sense of responsibility, and his willingness to do what needed to be done. He was respected for the way he approached life with determination and honesty.

Those who knew Joe will remember his humor, generosity, and selfless nature. He had a way of making people feel comfortable and included, and he enjoyed being with friends and having a good time. His laughter and easygoing spirit left a lasting impression on many. Whether he was spending time outdoors or exploring new places, he appreciated the experiences that brought people together and created lasting memories.

Joe will be remembered as a man of many talents and roles, but above all as someone who cared deeply for others. He was funny in a way that brought comfort and joy, generous in how he gave of himself, and selfless in putting others before his own needs. His life was a reflection of steady devotion, quiet strength, and a heart always willing to help. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and friendship that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Though his passing leaves a deep void, Joe’s memory will remain a source of comfort to his family and friends. The lessons he taught through his actions, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely will not be forgotten. He will be remembered with affection and gratitude by all whose lives he touched.
