John Calvin Preston Junior, known lovingly as JP and referred to with, passed away on September 16, 2026, in Bradenton, Florida, at the age of 69 after a courageous life that ended from heart failure.

JP was born on September 20, 1956, in Lexington, Kentucky, and carried the pride of his Kentucky roots throughout his life. He grew up with a strong sense of family, hard work, and loyalty, values that remained at the center of everything he did. A graduate of Henry Clay High School, he developed the foundation for a lifetime marked by dedication, good humor, and steady commitment to the people and communities he served.

JP spent more than 40 years with Thompson Pump, where he retired as the Sarasota Branch manager. During his long career, he earned the respect of coworkers and customers alike through his dependable nature, his careful and analytical mind, and the way he approached every responsibility with integrity. He was proud of the work he did and the relationships he built over the decades, and his leadership left a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of working alongside him. Beyond his professional life, JP gave generously of his time and energy to youth sports and his community. He loved coaching his children and grandchildren at both GT Bray Park and Braden River Little League, where he shared not only his knowledge of the game but also his patience, encouragement, and joy. He also volunteered with Braden River Little League as President and faithfully ran the concession stand for many years, helping create a welcoming and supportive environment for countless families and players. His involvement reflected the same steady commitment and spirit that defined so much of his life.

He was known by those who loved him as funny, loving, and analytical, a combination that made him both a source of laughter and a trusted presence in any conversation. He had a gift for making people feel comfortable, and his sense of humor brightened many rooms. At the same time, he was thoughtful and observant, always paying attention to details and approaching life with intelligence and clarity.

He enjoyed a wide variety of music and could appreciate everything from Elvis Presley to Garth Brooks. He also enjoyed frequent visits to the Hard Rock Casino, where he liked to play cards and spend time in the excitement of the games. He was a devoted fan of the Kentucky Wildcats and the Cincinnati Reds, and he followed both teams with passion and loyalty. These interests brought him enjoyment throughout his life and became part of the many memories shared by those who knew him best.

JP is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Preston; his daughters, Christina Preston and Sarah Preston; his son, Ty Preston; his brother, Eddy Preston; his half-sister, Kimberly Preston; and his grandsons, Grayson Preston, Aidan Sieg, and Colin Sieg. He was preceded in death by his father, John Calvin Preston Senior; his mother, Willa Mae Bates; and his sister, Glenda Breeden. He was deeply loved by his family, and his presence will be missed in every gathering, every story, and every moment of remembrance.

JP leaves behind a legacy of devotion, steady leadership, and love for family, sports, music, and community. His life was one of meaningful work, faithful service, and personal warmth. Those who knew him will remember his laughter, his wisdom, and the unwavering support he gave so freely. Though he is no longer with us, his influence will continue to live on in the lives of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
