Bradenton, Florida - John Thomas Fecik, born on May 5, 1935, in Farrell, Pennsylvania, to John Fecik and Mary Chrash, spent his formative years in West Middlesex, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Farrell High School, he pursued higher education at California State Teachers College, where he earned a B.S. degree in Industrial Education in 1958. His academic journey continued at the University of Maryland, where he obtained a Master's degree followed by a Doctorate of Education degree in 1970.
John's professional career flourished as a Professor of Industrial Arts at Cheyney State College from 1970 until 1981. In the summer of 1974 he was an Educational Advisor to the Kingdom of Nepal. In 1981, John joined the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) as a Professor and Departmental Chair of Industrial Technology. John's passion for international education led him to lecture and consult at universities in Japan, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, and Chile.
After a distinguished career, John retired from UNI in 2009 and relocated to Bradenton, Florida.He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Barbara Hegedus and Donna Swetlach. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Stephanie, his three sons, John, Robert, and David, five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be held at Saints Peter & Paul The Apostles Catholic Church in Bradenton, Florida, on January 18, 2025 followed by a Celebration of Life at the Elks on 75th St in Bradenton.
