John Joseph Wasinda

John J. Wasinda, born April 25, 1937 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, passed peacefully on July 17, 2023 in Sarasota, Florida.
John attended Coughlin High School in Wilkes-Barre, attended Stonehill College in Vermont for his undergraduate degree, and then continued to receive his doctoral degree from Rutgers University, New Jersey.
John married Sandra (“Sandy”) Wasinda (nee Riscavage) on August 6, 1966, and they proceeded to resided in various towns in New Jersey, where he was employed as principal and later superintendent of a New Jersey school district. After retiring, John and Sandy moved to River Wilderness Country Club in the Sarasota-Bradenton, FL area. After Sandy preceded him in death in 2005, John later married Beverly Ware on January 8, 2011, and they moved to The Glenridge in Sarasota in 2015.
John loved to travel the world, and explored dozens of countries on all 7 continents. While at River Wilderness, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed he many other activities at the country club. John was extremely active at Glenridge, and enjoyed participating in various plays and productions, and enthusiastically presided over Bingo and trivia games. John was named Ambassador at Glenridge, and loved guiding prospective residents through the facility.
John was preceded in death by his mother Jenny Kern and father John Wasinda, wife Sandy, brother Akim and sisters Cindy and Carol.
John is survived by his wife Beverly, his sons John (“Jay”) Wasinda of San Francisco, California, and Bradley Wasinda of Tampa, Florida, his sister-in-law Diane Davison of Tampa and her husband Jim, and various nieces and nephews.
John will be interned at Saint Frances X Cabrini Catholic Church in Parrish, Florida where Sandy is interned, and a Celebration of Life will be held on August 19, 2023 at Glenridge.
