John R Zurchin Jr., born on February 17, 1937, in McKees Rocks, PA, passed away due to flu complications on February 7, 2026, in Bradenton, FL, just shy of his 89th birthday.
John is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann; his devoted sons, Kevin “undertaker” Zurchin (& Elaine Dembroski), Brian (& Stacy) Zurchin, and his furry friend, Rusty. Also survived by siblings Joe (& Faye) Zurchin, and Roberta (& Jim) Speakman. John was predeceased by his parents John & Mary Zurchin, and sister, Mary Ann Corba.
After graduating from high school, John pursued his passion for metallurgy at Carnegie Mellon University, a field that would define his professional life. His dedication to his country was evident through his 23 years of service as a Flight Engineer in the United States Air Force, a role that allowed him to merge his love for flying with his commitment to service. Following his military career, John continued to work as a Metallurgist at Crucible Steel for 43 years, where his expertise and dedication were unparalleled.
John was an avid enthusiast of polka dancing, photography, and flying radio-controlled airplanes.
John was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend whose warmth, kindness, and love touched all who knew him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. As we bid farewell to John, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of purpose, joy, and an abundance of love.
A visitation will take place on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 2:00-8:00 PM at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory, 43rd Street Chapel, located at 604 43rd Street West, Bradenton, Florida. A service will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory, 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street, Bradenton, Florida. Burial will take place at 1:30 PM at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
