Bradenton, Florida - Joyce Ethel Smith, aged 88, passed away on October 30, 2024, in Bradenton, FL. Born in Motherwell, Scotland on September 29, 1936, Joyce's life was self-described as "magical," and was marked by extensive travel.

Joyce studied Home Economics, which reflected her lifelong love for family and home life. Moving around a fair deal, from Motherwell to Coatbridge, Whitley Bay, and Kings Lynn in the UK, the family permanently moved to America in 1977. She resided for years in Moorestown, NJ, then retired to Bradenton, Florida. While living in New Jersey, she worked in retirement communities in Cherry Hill and Voorhees. Some of her traveling highlights include time in Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Hawaii. She recalled traveling across the English Channel and driving through Europe, across the Alps, and down into Italy.

Joyce began Scottish Country Dancing in school as a girl, and revisited the hobby both in New Jersey and in Florida. She also enjoyed Lawn Bowling, Tai Chi, and playing Bridge, each of which she pursued with enthusiasm and joy.

She is survived by a loving family: her son, Russell Smith, his wife Kim, and their son Kyle; her daughter, Anne Timpane, her husband David, and their children Michael (and his wife Sandra), Robby, and Julia; and her daughter, Fiona Smith Sutherland, her husband David, and son Drew. Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George, whom she married in 1961.

Joyce will be remembered for her kind spirit, her passion for her hobbies, and her devotion to her friends, especially those she shared at Freedom Village. A memorial service will be held at Freedom Village on December 27th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice (https://tidewellhospice.org/).
