Julia E. Flanigan, lovingly known as Judy, passed away on April 20, 2026, in Bradenton, Florida, at the age of 90, leaving behind a legacy of faith and devoted service.
Born on June 25, 1935, in South Amboy, New Jersey, she lived a life marked by generosity, intelligence, and a spirited love for others. Judy’s life reflected the quiet strength and kindness. Judy pursued her calling in the healing profession with great dedication, earning her Nursing Degree and later becoming an anesthetist. She served with skill and commitment as an anesthetist across the United States, in Hawaii, and in the Virgin Islands. Her work touched many lives, and she was respected not only for her professional ability, but also for the compassion and calm presence she brought to those in her care. She understood her work as more than a career, and she carried out her responsibilities. When Judy lost most of her vision, she met that challenge with courage.
She joined the Lighthouse Vision Loss Center, where she found fellowship and purpose among others facing similar struggles. Rather than allowing her vision loss to define or limit her, she became an advocate for those who were visually impaired. Her voice and example offered encouragement to many, and she continued to inspire others through her determination and dignity. Even in seasons of difficulty, she remained a source of light to those around her. Judy had a joyful and adventurous spirit that enriched her life and the lives of those who knew her.
She enjoyed travel, ballooning, adventure vacations, and cooking, and she embraced each experience with enthusiasm and gratitude. Those who knew Judy will remember her as generous, spirited, and intelligent.
She faced the changes and challenges of life with courage, and she continued to serve and encourage others even when her own path became difficult. Her example will remain in the hearts of many who were blessed to know her. Judy was also a beloved family member, and her life was enriched by the bonds she shared with Frank Flanigan and others who held her dear. Her memory will live on through the stories, laughter, and love shared by those who were closest to her.
Though she has departed this earthly life, the impact of her presence will not be forgotten. May Julia E. Flanigan be remembered with gratitude for a life well lived, for a heart that gave freely, and for a faith that endured. Her journey on earth has ended, but the light she shared remains. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
