Amendment 4: Just the Facts

FALSE, FALSE, MOSTLY FALSE

Posted

There is so much misinformation being disseminated about Amendment 4. Much of the advertising with misleading or false information is coming from our state government, using taxpayers dollars to spread the misinformation and lies.

We need to ask everyone we meet today, tomorrow, up until next Tuesday: "Have you voted? Will you support Amendment 4?" If they try to respond with lies about this initiative, here are the facts.

NOT TRUE: Abortion will be the only medical procedure that minors can have without parental consent.

Amendment 4 protects existing parental rights in the Florida constitution. Florida voters passed the constitutional parental notification amendment approximately 20 years ago and Florida statute defines notification to include parental consent. As the amendment clearly states: "This amendment does NOT change the Legislature’s constitutional authority to require notification to a parent or guardian before a minor has an abortion."

NOT TRUE: Amendment 4 mandates permission for abortion up to birth.

Amendment 4 would overturn the state’s extreme ban on abortions and allow abortions up to "viability" of the fetus "or when necessary to protect the patient’s health". It does NOT "mandate" that abortions be provided up to birth. Abortions after viability are almost never done and then only in the most extreme circumstances.

NOT TRUE: Amendment 4 would allow anyone to give authorization for an abortion.

Florida statutes allow only doctors to perform abortions. Physicians are regulated by the state’s Board of Medicine and must follow medical ethics and standards of practice, or risk discipline, which could include losing their license. Practicing medicine without a license is illegal. Amendment 4 would NOT allow people who aren’t licensed to provide health care to determine whether a patient qualifies for an abortion.

NOT TRUE: The abortion ban is protecting women’s health.

Amendment 4 ends Florida's extreme abortion ban, saves women's lives and health, and gets politicians out of the exam room and from interfering with very private medical care decisions. After Texas passed and abortion ban it has seen maternal mortality rise 56%Texas has also seen a 13% increase in infant mortality.

Women's health is being threatened because doctors fear they will face criminal prosecution if they perform an abortion.

NOT TRUE: Taxpayers will be required to fund abortions.

Nothing in the Amendment addresses funding for abortions. State law bars funding for abortions except in the case of life endangerment, rape and incest. The Hyde Amendment restricts the use of federal funds for abortion care.

MISLEADING: Unlike other amendments, Amendment 4 has no definitions. … Without definitions these words can mean almost anything.”

It’s not unusual for ballot measures to lack definitions, and Florida’s law doesn’t require it. Voters will consider six initiatives on the Florida ballot this year, and five don’t offer definitions. The state Legislature wrote four of them. The state defines, in law, what the opponents call “vague”. Both health care provider and viability are already defined in state law.

The latest poll shows Amendment 4 barely meeting the 60% approval rate.

That means if we don't get every possible supporter to the voting booth, Florida's abortion ban will remain law.

I think that somehow, somewhere: I was transported to Bizzaro World. The republicans used to be the party that was conservative, anti-nanny state, against superfluous laws and in general; against taxes. Governor Ron and the republican legislature passed over 180 new laws in 2024. One law passed every two days.

They also quietly passed the largest tax increase in the history of Florida.

Didn’t hear about that? It was the tax that was imposed on internet sales. I tried to find out how

much it amounted to; however, the state does not segregate the internet sales tax from general

    revenue.

I know I pay a lot, probably more than any other tax. That is new, unregulated income for the

state. Maybe this is where Ron got the money for his attempts to influence the electorate on two of the constitutional amendments before the voters. Is an elected official using state tax money to “educate” the electorate as to how to vote; a problem?

Now, the republicans, in general, are supporting a guy that bragged about able to assault young girls because he is/was rich. The only thing more shocking, is the blind support for Trump by the evangelizers. That is a term I use to describe people who pretend to be Christians when in fact they are the worst examples; of and for Christians.

I know the story behind the “evangelizers support.” Something about King David and the absurd conclusion that a sin of David led to the birth of Jesus. I am confident that the offending

preachers will get their “just” reward.

“Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven.”

Jesus also said; “I am the way, the truth, and the light. And with respect to the uniting of

republicans with the evangelizers: it was Jesus himself that first mentioned the separation between state and church.

"Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's"

This is the election of the person who will have her/his hand on the button that can literally destroy the world. Clearly the elected Republicans are following Trump like sheep. Not looking out for the people who elected them, but for their own agendas. They need to be routed: Just to get their attention. And BTW, you can save the world.
