Bradenton, Florida - Kenneth Alan Townsend, born on May 12, 1947, in Tuscaloosa Alabama, became a citizen of heaven on December 15, 2024.
Kenny graduated from Southeast High School in 1965. He attended Manatee Junior College and USF-Tampa. Kenny spent his life working in the civil engineering field as a draftsman and engineering construction inspector with the City of Bradenton, Larson Engineering, and then with LTA Engineers, where he never fully retired. In his early years, he was a dedicated volunteer fireman with Oneco-Tallevast Fire Department and served as president of the Four Wheel Drive Club of Manatee County.
Kenny was a pillar of the community serving in many different roles over the span of his amazing life. For most of his adult life, he along with his wife served key leadership roles as youth pastors and as elder at Church of the Cross; they held leadership roles at The Bridge Church and were Serve Team Leaders together at Bayside Community Church. In addition, Kenny served for a time as chaplain for the local chapter of the Christian Motorcycle Association. Kenny enjoyed fishing, motorcycling, and family vacations in North Carolina. His favorite pastime though was watching his son play and coach basketball and yelling at the referees. Kenny is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Margaret Townsend, daughter Lynn Townsend Burnett, son Scott Townsend, his sister, Patricia Townsend Fleet, and his 4 grandchildren, Ty and Neeva Townsend and Nate and Jayden Burnett.
Kenny's Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, December 28th at 11 a.m. at Bayside Community Church West Bradenton Campus, 6609 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton Florida 34209.
